Member Spotlight: Ann Yoder

I have been with the North Carolina League since January, 2002. My services are allocated to the North Carolina Credit Union League, both dues- and fee-supported employees, First Carolina Corporate Credit Union, Carolinas Credit Union Foundation and Carolina Credit Union Services, and shared branches in Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and Durham.

My background in human resource managment began in the manufacturing sector in both a start-up and retrofit Japanese manufacturing setting, with 630 employees working schedules to cover 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is no doubt that every imaginable HR challenge presented itself during those years!

My vast experience has well-prepared me to enjoy the wonderful staff and managment team here at the League. During my term here we have introduced an online payroll system, time tracking system, pay system, and performance review programs. With the many locations, this has streamlined the processes and enabled employees to manage their own information efficiently. This year, we have administered an employee opinion survey, generated benefit statements, and done twelve weeks of supervisory labor law

training to strengthen the leadership within our organizations.

I re-married almost four years ago after being single since 1981. I have three self-sufficient children and my husband has two wonderful sons and two precious grandchildren. We have invested in a five-bedroom beach house on the North Carolina coast, where we enjoy spending weekends relaxing and enjoying friends and family.

Biggest challenge for 2006

Holding down medical benefit costs. Also, as for all of us, benefit package costs continue to be a challenge and this year we have added a Roth 401(k)and additional investment options to enhance return on investment for our future retirement plans.

Best advice

Always address issues as they occur and never put off tomorrow what should be done today. Handle it and be consistent to policy and practice.

Greatest benefit of being a Council member

Great locations for meetings and fabulous people. The networking and great information from both the conferences and Listserv have been great learning tools in the credit

union world.

Best part of my job

I love all of my job. The people are a joy to work with here in North Carolina.

Hardest part of my job

Keeping everyone motivated and happy.

Best success story

Writing letters to individuals to address issues and seeing them meet and exceed expectations.

Hobbies and interests

Cooking, reading, interior decorating, and figuring out how to retire with enough to live well. I enjoy outdoor painting.

People will be surprised to learn that I . . .

Have only been married four years.

Life goal not yet accomplished

To paint a masterpiece in oil.

Something that always makes me laugh

People and their enthusiasm for life.

If I had an extra hour in the day . . .

I would get more exercise.
