Member Spotlight: Lynn Mohler

Lynn Mohler is the training manager at Community 1st Credit Union in Iowa. Born and raised in Waterloo, Lynn spent 16 years working at Veridian Credit Union, primarily in business development. In 2000 she was awarded the first-ever Business Development Professional of the Year Award.

After moving to southern Iowa in 2003, Lynn began working for another credit union which later became Community 1st Credit Union. As training manager, Lynn is responsible for developing the training curriculum. Under her guidance they have recently developed a complete training department and implemented functional training for tellers, member service representatives, managers, and loan officers. Her department has also launched product-based webinars and sales training programs.

Lynn has been married for 28 years, has two adult children, and enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Biggest challenge

Developing a training department and bringing consistency to our credit union through consistent training methods. I never see things as challenges however, but as opportunities.

Best advice

Join the Council! It has a wealth of information available to credit unions (as do the other Councils). There are many experienced professionals available both at CUNA and in the Councils who are ready and willing to share their experiences and best practices. I'd recommend using this group as much as possible!

Best part of my job

Developing a robust training department for our credit union.

Hardest part of my job

Not having enough time to accomplish it all!

Hobbies and interests

Reading, spending time with family and friends.

People would be surprised to learn that I . . .

Am old enough to have a 26-year-old daughter (people say I don't look that at old, but unfortunately, I am!).

Recent book

Cut to the Chase and 99 Other Rules to Liberate Yourself and Gain Back the Gift of Time by Stuart R. Levine.

Life goal not yet accomplished

Traveling to Europe.

If I had an extra hour in the day . . .

I'd take the time to appreciate all the finer things in life.
